Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about how our Basic Support Services and Individualized Home Supports (IHS) work, who they’re for, and how we help individuals live with dignity, purpose, and independence.
1. What’s the difference between Basic Support Services and IHS?
Basic Support Services provide help with everyday activities such as personal care, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and supervision. Individualized Home Supports (IHS) offer more structured support and/or training focused on building skills for independent living, which may occur in the home or community.
2. What types of IHS services do you offer?
We provide all three IHS service options: IHS without training, IHS with training, and IHS with family training. Each option is tailored to meet specific support needs and goals identified in a person’s assessment.
3. Who qualifies for these services?
Individuals receiving services under Minnesota’s 245D waiver programs—including CADI, BI, DD, or EW—may qualify. We work closely with case managers and families to determine eligibility and create a personalized support plan.
4. Where are services delivered?
Basic Support Services are usually delivered in the individual’s home. IHS services may be provided at home or in the community, depending on the person’s goals—such as developing community living skills, social interaction, or managing daily routines.
5. Can families or guardians be involved in care planning?
Absolutely. We emphasize a person-centered approach that includes active collaboration with families, guardians, and case managers. IHS with family training is designed specifically to support the individual and their caregivers together.
6. How do I get started with Advantage’s services?
You can reach out to us directly or have your case manager submit a referral. We’ll schedule an intake meeting to review your needs, explain service options, and guide you through the enrollment process.
